Piano Lesson Software
Upon my travels into the internet, I found the following site which was reviewing Piano Lesson Software.
I browsed through them out of curiosity, and whilst some products may have some good features, it really is no substitute for actual lessons with a Piano Teacher. Upon reading further down the page, I came across the following article, praising the benefits of using piano lesson software. My comments are below each section!
Learning how to play the piano or keyboard requires multiple lessons, from reading music to playing by ear, Piano Lesson Software offers hundreds of lessons by professional musicians at a fantasmo price.
– There may well be hundreds of lessons by professional musicians, but not all in one software package, and they can’t give you comment or feedback upon your playing through this software!
Five more reasons to consider studying using Piano Lesson Software:
1. With piano lesson software you can learn to play the piano or keyboard in the comfort of your own home, without having to pay for expensive and intimidating private lessons. Simply install the software, connect an electronic keyboard to your computer (with optional headphones) and you’re on your way.
– Expensive is relative and is certainly does depend how much you can afford. When learning to play, can the software ensure you are sat correctly, that your arms are in the correct position and that your hands are positioned the most efficiently? Without this feedback you might soon find yourself having time off school or work due to back ache, RSI and the like! How expensive could this turn out to be?
– As for lessons being intimidating – what do you plan to do? Play the piano forever in cupboard with nobody watching? A good and empathic teacher will know that you will be nervous and will have skills and techniques to enable you to feel at ease. Everyone has to start somewhere, and isn’t it better to begin with someone guiding you through the first steps? One of the little known facts of having actual lessons with a piano teacher, is that it prepares you in many ways for being able to play in front of other people!
– Regarding the “Connect an electronic Keyboard to your computer” comment – a keyboard and piano are actually two different instruments! Please be careful when considering buying piano lesson software that you are actually going to learn to play the piano, and NOT the keyboard!
2. Piano lesson software condenses the skills and knowledge of classical musicians and modern pianists into an interactive software package. The lessons guide you through everything that you need to know, including terminology, fingering, scales, chords and more.
– Fabulous – can it also make you a cup of tea? OK, so you won’t generally find a piano teacher making you a cup of tea, but can it offer guidance and advice as you are learning these skills to give you the best chance at learning? Many of my students would rather just play an exercise and then move on to the more ‘fun stuff’ before the technique is polished perfect – can this software encourage you in all the right ways so that you do get it polished perfect rather than just having a bash?
3. Hundreds of lessons will lead you from basic technique to playing publicly for family and friends. You might start today by playing “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” but before you know it, you’ll be amazing your friends with Beethoven’s “For Elise.”
– Any good piano teacher will go through goal setting with you at the start of your lessons, and if there is a particular piece or style of piece you wish to play this will be incorporated into your lessons as soon as possible to give you the motivation and confidence to play “something you know!”
4. Piano lesson software interacts with an electronic keyboard, or you can put your computer near a piano and practice alongside. Aspiring keyboardists can learn how to professionally play their instruments and experiment with chords taught by the leading programs.
-Please see my note below point number 1- are you wanting to learn the PIANO or the KEYBOARD? Be a pianist, or a keyboardist?
5. The piano is the preferred instrument of musicians around the world. Many children and adults have learned to play this amazing instrument-if you can play the piano, you’ll never have to look far to find an opportunity to do so.
-I might have to agree – partially anyway with this point – you will find piano’s lurking in all sorts of places, and if you have the confidence instilled in you by a piano teacher, there will be little to stop you getting to that piano and playing!
